Lincoln's Birthplace

This is a replication of his home. It sits inside the memorial monument located on the birthplace site.

Louisville, KY Outback Restaurant

Jen and I stopped at this Outback Restaurant for some supper and to spend the night on our way to the HSTW Conference in Nashville. Strange not having Ben and Elli with us, but we'll adjust. Thanks Slone's, for watching them. Thanks to sister Mindy, Nate, Noah and Gordon for taking Ben in a couple days. Hi and love you kids, if you are following the blog.

Elli - Beachin It

We had been promising to take her to the beach at some point during the trip, so we spent about an hour there, before heading for home.

On the Beach

We stopped at this beach near Jamestown before heading back to Ohio.

Live Entertainment

Elli listens to the live entertainment provided at Christiana's Tavern.

Yard of Linen

I am not sure about the name if them, but they used to wear these huge napkins so they wouldn't get any droppings of food on their clothing

George Washington's Favorite

This was George Washington's favorite tavern in Williamsburg!

Christiana's Tavern

We are here for supper tonite. Great food! Great colonial atmosphere! Pricey, but well worth the experience.

Yorktown

This is the actual town of Yorkstown. We spent an hour or so here today. Nice little historic community.

Yorktown Battlefield

We toured a little of this today, also. This was the site of the last big battle of the Revolutionary War.

Brutton Episcopal Church

Five of our U.S. presidents were members of this church.

Another Shot of the Armory

The Governor's Mansion is in the background.

Cell Phone Timer

I took this one using the timer settings on my phone. Not too bad.

This is More Like It

Ben finally gets a chance to check out some

Jen and I

Ben snapped this shot of Jen and I earlier today.

Colonial Williamsburg Capital Building

Day 3. We are doing some more exploring of Colonial Williamsburg today. Another hot one, but not quite as hot as the past two days.

Water Break

Stopped in this baked goods shop to buy some more water.

Williamsburg Day 2 Conclusion

Today was another very hot day, but eventful and fun...Ben and Elli think differently...Whiners..Lol. Kidding aside, the heat has definitely taken away from the experience. We did take some time to take in Kung Fu Panda at a near theater tonight (thumbs up), so not all was a failure from the kids perspective. It's right back to the abuse tomorrow though. We will take in more of Williamsburg, along with the beach and possibly Yorktown. Big day! We'll keep you posted.

Jamestown Settlement, Blacksmith Shop

That's the summer job I want...A heat index of 104° today and working with fire and molten metal.

Jamestown Settlement, Fort

I was expecting a few more workers and activities for the kids and was somewhat disappointed, but it's still a neat place.

Ahoy Matey

Jamestown Settlement

Indian village

Bamboo Trees in Virginia?

I asked the lady working the register at the Glass House and she confirmed that this is not indigenous to the area. She said someone planted it many, many years ago and it had been running rampid since.

Jamestown Glass Works

We watched this glass blower make a bottle. Neat!

Hot Again

Did I mention it is hot again today!

Historic Jamestown Foundations

There are several brick foundations still scattered throughout the site. This is hard to see from this image, but there is an old travern foundation off in the distance, and several other building foundations scattered throughout the park.

Drafty Home

I should have read the info on this building. I don't know if they are still building it or what, but it is what appears to be the beginnings of one of the homes that would have sat inside the fort.

Ben and His Guns

Ben poses next to a canon just outside Fort Jamestown.

Memorial Church, Historic Jamestown

The tower in front of this church is the only original standing structure left in Jamestown. The church itself, is a reconstruction.

Memorial Church

This is the only standing structure left in Jamestown...Not Elli...the tower behind her.

Archeological Dig, Historic Jamestown

There is a constant dig for artifacts taking place here.

Good Morning from Williamsburg!

Williamsburg Day 1 Final Thoughts

We arrived here around 3pm today after a total of about 11 hours on the road. The temps peaked at 98. It was a dry heat though :) We plan on heading to Jamestown Settlement, Historic Jamestown and back into Williamsburg tomorrow. Another hot one too. Now that I have my phone posting again, I will try to post more often.
